How Much Does It Cost to Install Skylights?
At Choice Roofing Group, these are some common skylight questions we are frequently asked:
- How much does a new skylight cost?
- How much will it cost to repair my existing skylight?
- How much can an energy efficient skylight save on my energy bill?
- What do energy efficient skylights cost?
As with many of our services, it can be tough to give a price without taking some firm measurements, but this section can be used as a guide to give you an idea of what an average sized skylight costs under normal conditions. Skylights are a great way to allow natural light into your home or office, and when installed properly, can also reduce your energy costs. Choice Roofing Group offers expert skylight installation of a variety of affordable skylights, and we want to help you choose the skylight that best meets your needs. We encourage you to give us a call or email us to set up an appointment, but in the meantime, here’s a basic skylight pricing guide to get you started.
Average New Skylight Installation Prices:
Standard skylight cost :
The most basic type of skylight you’ll find is a standard fixed skylight, often in a rectangular shape. This type of skylight does not open, but does still offer a beautiful view to the outside world from inside your home, and allows warm, natural light into your home during a bright and sunny day. Although there’s technically no “standard size”, we’ve found that homeowners prefer roughly a 24” x 24” skylight when opting for a square size, or roughly a 24” x 48” when opting for a rectangular skylight. On average, we charge anywhere from $600 for a small standard square skylight up to $1600 on average for a standard rectangular skylight. For larger skylights or for skylights in difficult areas that will require additional labor, costs can be more, but these are pretty safe numbers to start with to get a skylight budget in mind. It’s also important to allow a professional skylight contractor to handle the installation of your new skylight. Improperly installed skylights pose many problems, including the danger that comes with skylights that are not correctly sealed, which can lead to leaks and severe property damage. Trust the professionals at Choice Roofing Group to not only install your skylight correctly, but to help you choose a skylight that gives you the look you desire while also taking into account the amount of UV protection needed based on the location of the skylight.
Structural skylight cost :
Structural skylights, often used for commercial applications, are the hardest to pin down a cost for. Many structural skylight installations are custom projects, and require months of design and planning before even beginning the installation. We’ve seen everything from extremely small-scale structural skylight projects around $5,000 up to massive commercial installations than were $50,000 and higher. Structural skylights may be a great option for churches, office buildings, shopping malls, and much more. These are typically extremely large skylights that allow in a vast amount of light into large buildings, and should only be handled by professional contractors. Structural skylights are certainly an area where it’s good to have an estimator come out and meet with you on-site, so we can effectively price the job you’re searching for. No matter how big or how small the project is, Choice Roofing Group has experts ready to meet your every skylight need.
Rounded skylight cost :
Rounded skylights are very similar to our standard skylights ( also known as dome skylights ) – they are a type of fixed skylight, but instead of being square or rectangular, they have either a round or oval shape. Our prices can range from $600 for a small round skylight up to $2,000 or more for a large model. A rounded skylight adds a level of decor that sometimes a standard rectangular skylight simply cannot offer. A round or dome skylight installation is a tricky job, however, and should always be handled by a professional. At Choice Roofing Group, we offer free estimate for our rounded skylights, so it never hurts to invite us out and let us help you come up with the best options for your budget. We offer many affordable skylight products, and we can walk you through deciding which ones are right for you. You’ll be amazed at how simple the process is when you trust our team. When you let us install your rounded skylight, we’ll work around your schedule when it comes to the installation, and the project will often be completed that very day.
Auto-venting skylight cost :
An auto-venting or electric skylight is a type of skylight that you can open and close by means of a remote control. These are ideal for high or hard to reach areas where you want a skylight that can open to let in a breeze. At Choice Roofing Group, we install top-of-the-line electric skylights for many of our customers. These cutting edge electric skylights can range in cost from $1500 up to $5000 or more for large venting skylights. You will find that our affordable electric skylight prices are extremely competitive compared to other skylight companies, and are installed by our expert contractors, who have years of experience handling even the most difficult of installations. When it comes to an auto-venting skylight installation, a professional team should certainly be trusted to handle the job. Not only will it require an experienced skylight installer, but we’ll also be sure to have a certified electrician handle the wiring of your electric venting skylight so everything is up to code.
Manual venting skylight cost :
A manual venting skylight differs from an electric or auto-venting skylight in the way you think it would – rather than opening the skylight via some type of remote, you manually open the skylight as you would an awning window. Manual venting skylights are much cheaper than auto-venting skylights, so if the skylight is to be installed in an area that you could reach without too much difficulty, a manual venting skylight may be a great option for your property. Because there is no electric component, manual venting skylights are also cheaper to repair and often don’t require maintenance as frequently. And of course, a manual venting skylight won’t add a penny to your monthly electric bill in the form of electricity consumed, yet you still receive the energy saving benefits. On average, we install manual venting skylights at a cost of $1000 to $2500. For some larger skylights and for jobs that require a more difficult installation, costs may run a little higher.
Sun Tunnel Cost :
Sun tunnels, also sometimes known as tubular skylights, capture sunlight via a dome installed on your roof. The “tunnel” then takes that light and directs it to the other end of the sun tunnel, bringing light into areas of your home where a standard skylight may not be possible. Sun tunnels skylights are one of the more popular types of skylights we install at Choice Roofing Group, and they are also one of the more affordable skylights. A typical sun tunnel for a residential installation will run between $500 to $1250 for a basic 10-22” model. There are times where the cost may be greater than this, such as an instance where you need a tubular skylight that is a larger diameter, or one that needs to be longer than average. You may never have considered installing a skylight at your home simply because you have attic space that sits between your roof and the interior of your home, but that’s exactly where a sun tunnel comes in handy! Invite a Choice Roofing Group representative out to your home, where we provide free sun tunnel estimates. We’ll help you decide if a sun tunnel is right for you, and if it isn’t, we’ll be sure to help you find the right type of affordable skylight that is.
